What To do When You’re Tired of Being Spiritual

It may be a little taboo for me to say this, especially considering who I am… but sometimes I don’t feel like doing anything that requires me to be “spiritual”

There are some days and weeks where I don’t want to meditate. I don’t feel like doing any kind of ritual and I don’t want to read books that will contribute to my growth in any way.

When I’m in this mood crystals annoy me, pendulums get an eye roll from me, and I even side eye my candles and cabinets filled with herbs.

I close my Crown Chakra because I don’t want to hear from Spirit…no thank you.

If you can relate to this and you find yourself feeling guilty over it…don’t.

I speak to my clients about this Spiritual Burnout because it’s very real and valid. There’s nothing wrong with you and it doesn’t make you any less spiritual. You can never be less spiritual because you are in fact…a spirit.  You will never get a chance to integrate all you’ve learned if you’re too busy cramming more into your brain and Spirit. Release the need to “do” and allow yourself to “be.”  That nagging feeling that’s keeping you from your regular routine is your hearts cry for embodiment. Your soul just wants you to be for a while and that’s okay.

So, what does this look like?

It looks like you doing whatever you want. What a lot of you will figure out is that you have no idea about what you want anymore. You won’t know if you want to read a fiction book, get your nails done, binge-watch TV, or climb a mountain.

Have you been caught in the trappings of spirituality?

Yes, it indeed can become a trap. It’s a trap when you feel guilty all the time over what you should be doing. It’s a trap when you nitpick everything about your personal practice and you’re motivated by guilt and not love.

Stop being spiritually glutenous and listen to what your soul is trying to tell you.

Spiritual gluttony (I just made this up by the way) is when you gorge on everything you can find.

Tarot. Crystals. Meditation. Buddhism. Hoodoo. Voodoo. Journaling. Sound Healing. Spell Work…and more.

Don’t get me wrong there’s absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying all these things but the problem occurs when you dive into them with reckless abandon and no structure. You’re stuffing yourself with spiritual knowledge you have no use for. Just like with food, sex, and drugs, you’re using it to fill an empty space inside of you and you think it’s okay because it’s “spiritual.” I’m here to tell you that this is not okay, and your body is trying to convey this to you.

Now is the time to reset and that means going on a fast. That means putting a halt to all the things you’ve been using to cover up the fact that you don’t even know what you enjoy anymore.

When I found myself at this point, I had to just try SOMETHING. and then assess how I felt. So if I had 5 ideas about what I maybe wanted to do, I picked one and then I saw how it felt. Sometimes it was great and other times I knew it wasn’t for me.  I had to test things out again and enjoy the journey. It felt great to experience the life I incarnated into and to stop running from it.  That’s why we’re here. Honestly, it’s not to meditate all damned day or to be more spiritual. We came to this here to be human… so why are so many running from it? Well, it’s not easy so we tend to avoid it.

I give you permission to step into joy. To binge watch TV. To sit and do nothing. To play with your children. To buy and use more makeup. To eat a delicious meal. To have amazing sex. To climb that mountain and take that vacation.

To just be.

So, what do you do when you’re tired of being “spiritual”?

Be human.
